Indigo Arts is a non-profit company dedicated to preserving language, culture, and creativity. Our pilot project, the Language App Initiative, focuses on promoting the Nama dialect and culture, while our developing creative studio provides a platform for artists to share their voices. As we grow, we aim to expand this vision to celebrate the full richness of South Africa’s heritage.
We believe that language is more than words — it is memory, culture, and identity. Our initial focus is the preservation and promotion of the Nama dialect and culture, ensuring that this vital part of South Africa’s heritage continues to live, breathe, and inspire.
With support from the ABCD Grantees Programme, we are developing our Language App Initiative as a pilot project. This innovative platform will create accessible, engaging ways for communities and learners to connect with Nama language and culture.
But Indigo Arts is more than a tech initiative. We set ourselves apart by weaving arts and culture into everything we do. We are currently transforming our premises into a production studio for music, podcasting, videography, and photography. This creative hub will provide opportunities for artists to showcase their talents, while amplifying awareness of Nama heritage and opening doors for cultural exchange.
As we grow, our vision is to expand beyond Nama, creating tools and spaces that celebrate the richness of South Africa’s broader cultural and linguistic diversity.
At Indigo Arts, we are not just building an app — we are building a living archive of language, culture, and creativity where every voice matters and every story deserves to be heard.
